A woman pumping gas in front of this intrepid videographer inexplicably put a lighter next to her gas tank as she filled it.
Perhaps something was frozen solid? Surgut isn't exactly a tropical paradise. In fact, the high temperatures in Surgut for the last week didn't reach above 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Obviously, no matter how cold it is, putting an exposed flame near fuel is a big no-no. When flames shot out of her gas tank she looked genuinely surprised. She tried blowing out the fire and even fanning it. Things went from bad to worse when she pulled the nozzle from the car's tank, spraying fuel and flame in the process.
The driver behind her who filmed the clumsy semi self-immolation moved on when the flames reach a few feet high. Probably a smart move, considering the other driver's actions. The best move when a flame meets a gas pump is to leave the pump in the car and contact the gas station attendant. They are able to hit a kill switch that will stop the flow of gas to any of the pumps. Just a small amount of static electricity can spark a fire while pumping gas, so never get back into your car while pumping gas. Never smoke or spark a fire while pumping gas. Even if no fuel is flowing, vapors could be present and ignite.
