Three Dead, Multiple Injuries in Brutal Weekend of Road Accidents
A truck driver is hit and killed by another vehicle, reportedly while trying to flee on foot from police, while two others are killed in two separate car accidents.

A truck driver was struck and killed by another vehicle in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Emek Hefer area north of Tel Aviv, reportedly while trying to flee on foot from a police stop.

An investigation has been opened into the incident, which took place at about 2:30 A.M. in the course of a volunteer police operation related to property crime in the area. The volunteer police considered the truck suspicious and ordered the driver to stop. Instead, they said he sped away, ultimately abandoning his truck and fleeing on foot, when he was hit and killed by another vehicle.

Two others were killed in two separate accidents in a particularly brutal weekend on Israeli roads. On Friday morning, a pedestrian of about 60 was fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle in Netanya. Later in the day, a 19-year-old man was killed in an accident in the vicinity of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights.

In two hit-and-run accidents on Friday evening, a 6-year-old boy was struck in Jerusalem and a 19-year-old was hit in Haifa. Police detained a suspect in the Haifa case while in Jerusalem, police arrested two city residents suspected of involvement in the accident after their siblings turned them in. Jerusalem police said the driver had never held a driver’s license and had been caught driving without a license when he was 14.

In Be’er Sheva, a driver on Hebron Road lost control of his vehicle, critically injuring a 40-year-old man and seriously injuring a 16-year-old girl. A 40-year-old woman suffered moderate injuries in the accident and three other people sustained light wounds.

In another accident, in the Nazareth area, a 23-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured near the village of Reineh when he was hit by a car; in the south, near Hura, two men in their 20s were injured, one seriously and one moderately, in a road accident. Eight people, including an 8-year-old girl were injured in an accident near Elyakim in the north.
