Part of Teknikens write-up on the spy shots translates as, "the Swedes fall hardest for estate cars," and we have to admit that we're doing the same for the V90 - the raffish scale-model lines are just as sweet on the real thing. Many have commented on how the extreme angle of the rear glass would diminish load space. According to Teknikens, the V90 is 5.9 inches longer than V70, so it should be at least equal to the V70's 575-liters (20.3 cubic feet) of cargo capacity.
The rear lights on the S90 got a lot of attention, with opinion divided on whether they're worthy of the rest of the car. Take a look at the videos below to remind yourself how the S90's lighting elements look. The V90 mixes something old and something new in maintaining the long vertical light flanking the tailgate, with a new lens profiled like a knife on the tailgate. We'll have to wait and see how it drives, but it's on-road behavior will surely differ from that of the V70, as Teknikens says the V90 has a wheelbase a little more than five inches longer than its predecessor.
We should see the new wagon at the Geneva Motor Show. It will get Volvo's current quartet of engines at launch ranging from 190 horsepower from a four-cylinder diesel to the 407-hp T8 Twin Engine hybrid. More powerplants are expected, namely the Power Pulse turbodiesels, at least one three-cylinder, and something tuned for duty in a hotted-up Polestar variant. It's possible that a V90 Cross Country will be shown before year's end as well.
