Skoda Yeti Successor Spied In Motion For The First Time

Here we have a prototype of the second generation performing final testing rounds on the roads of Czech Republic. Interestingly, the video's YouTube description says the official premiere is scheduled for May 18th in Stockholm, Sweden, but we haven't heard anything about that yet.

Let's face it. The test vehicle looks rather ungainly, but (hopefully) that's just because it has the typical Skoda camouflage with deceiving layers of camouflage slapped onto the real body panels. The best way to describe it would have to be a low-cost Kodiaq built on a 75-percent scale. The tiny wheels don't do it any justice, either. I'm certain it will look significantly better once all of the disguise will come off when the production car will probably resemble our speculative render:

Beyond the styling, there's also the issue with the compact crossover's name. A recent report indicates Skoda might drop the Yeti moniker and go for Karoq, but it remains to be seen whether that's true or not. Fans of the brand probably won't like this move since Yeti is already a well-established nameplate and many will be sad to see it go.

As far as the technical specifications, just look at the Volkswagen Tiguan and the SEAT Ateca to get a very accurate idea of what's in tow. It might be a tad bigger than those two considering Skodas are generally larger than the equivalent models from the VW Group to provide a more spacious "Simply Clever" interior.

The aforementioned rumored May 18th reveal might actually be true taking into account Skoda slaps on this type of camouflage late in a model's testing phase. The same thing happened with the big Kodiaq seven-seat SUV, as well as with the Octavia facelift in 2016 and the flagship Superb a couple of years ago. Not only that, but we have it on good authority the new Yeti/Karoq will go on sale in Europe this fall, so the reveal date seems plausible.
