Every year, Motor Trend names a car, SUV, and truck of the year. For 2016, the winners were the Chevy Camaro, Volvo XC90 and Chevy Colorado.

This year, the car of the year finalists included the Audi A4, Cadillac CT6, Chrysler Pacifica, Genesis G90, Jaguar XE, Porsche 911, Tesla Model S 60/75 and Volvo S90. We aren't sure why the Pacifica minivan was put in this category, but the winner was the 2017 Chevy Bolt. The Bolt is the second EV car to win after the Tesla Model S took home the award in 2013.

Motor Trend praised the Bolt for its impressive range at an affordable price. Only the Tesla Model S has a larger range, and Tesla has yet to confirm how much a nicely equipped Model 3 will cost. The Bolt can go 238 miles on a single charge for under $30,000 (with tax rebates), which was enough to win the award. The SUV finalists included the Audi Q7, GMC Acadia All Terrain, Jaguar F-Pace, Mazda CX-9 and Tesla Model X. We love all of those SUVs, but we aren't surprised that the winner was the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. The GLC is a great looking SUV that seems like the sweet spot in the Mercedes SUV lineup.

Motor Trend loved how quiet the GLC's cabin was and how it could also be a sporty driver. Best of all, the GLC's price is very reasonable, and Motor Trend had a hard time finding any faults with it. The 2.0-liter engine is the only one available now, but there will also be a V6 GLC 43 model and a hardcore V8 GLC 63 AMG to look forward to. The truck of the year had a smaller roster which included the Nissan Titan, Ram 2500/3500 HD, Nissan Titan XD, Ford F-150 and Honda Ridgeline. The truck that took home the award was the Ford Super Duty, which includes the F-250 and F-350. Motor Trend loved the truck's capability and functionality.

Finally, this year Motor Trend also named its person of the year, Elon Musk. The CEO of Tesla deserves to be the most important figure in the automotive industry thanks to the amazing things that he has done with Tesla. If that wasn't enough, Musk is also responsible for sending rockets into space.
