Elon Musk Says Tesla Autopilot Reduces Accidents By 50 Percent
Tesla boss Elon Musk says the company's Autopilot semi-autonomous driving feature reduces chances of an accident by 50 percent, according to comments reported by Electrek.

"The probability of having an accident is 50-percent lower if you have Autopilot on," he said. "Even with our first version."

Musk is referencing the company's first generation of Autopilot, Electrek says. The feature is expected to improve as Tesla advances the technology. Musk made the comments as an event in Norway and didn't offer further details or specifics as to the accident figures.

Autopilot launched on the Model S and Tesla then added it to the Model X and Model 3. Tesla bills Autopilot as a driver assistance feature in its current form. The feature was tweaked in January, and Tesla added some limitations, but also put in the nifty summoning technology, which allows you to use your key fob to control your car for short distances. It was one of the reasons we named the Model S P90D our Technology Car of the Year.
