The new Ioniq is the world’s first model to be offered with three electrified powertrains and promises to be a proper opponent to the Toyota Prius. The plug-in and hybrid models both use the same 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine that makes 104 hp and 108 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed double-clutch transmission. The plug-in hybrid, however, gets an electric motor that makes 60 hp, compared to 43 hp in the hybrid.
Thanks to its 8.9 kWh battery, the plug-in model claims to have 50 k of electric range, while the regular hybrid makes do with a 1.56 kWh battery. Hyundai hasn’t released all the specs for the all-electric Ioniq, but has released a set of numbers: 28 kWh battery, 118 hp and 165 km/h. Range is a claimed 250 km/h, but there’s no word on what type of cycle that’s on. To help differentiate the three vehicles from one another, there are blue accents on the Ioniq Hybrid and plug-in, while the Inoiq Electric has bespoke copper colored accents.
