Winners of 2016 Michelin Challenge Design Rethink Mobility
Michelin's annual Challenge Design competition dares automotive stylists' ability to imagine a future vehicle within a given theme.

This year's theme was Mobility for All – Designing for the Next Frontier, and of the 14 winners, the jury handed first place to the Google Community Vehicle by Rajshekhar Dass, Abu Huraira Shaikh, Sunny Duseja, Joji Isaac, Saksham Karunakar, and Tajeshwar Kaul from Pune, India.

This group imagined a vehicle offering significant utility for rural farmers in India. During cultivation, the bed allows for hauling, and machinery can be attached to the back. When the season is over, a roof and walls can transform the model into a taxi for carrying passengers. To handle rough roads the tires are made from replaceable segments that are meant to gain momentum as they turn.

The second- and third-place winners also sought to meet the need for rural transportation. The Arriero from Columbia is meant to move goods on rough roads between small villages in the country. The Bamboo Recumbent by two designers from South Korea is a vehicle for the Philippines that filters water while on the move.
