About 85,000 of Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche vehicles were sold in the United States with the mentioned turbodiesel engine that has been found to have been fitted with a so-called defeat device. These include the VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne sport utility vehicles.
An earlier Bild am Sonntag report disclosed that the engine management software turned off emissions-compliant equipment after 22 minutes, as emissions testing usually takes about twenty minutes. The agreement comes on top of the earlier $2.7 billion settlement caused by the 475,000 vehicles Volkswagen sold with an emissions-rigged 2.0 TDI engine. As Reuters adds, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer delayed a hearing until later on Friday, so negotiations can continue regarding the 3.0 liter vehicles; the story is sure to develop further as we receive more 3.0 TDI related information.
