Transport Minister Yisrael Katz and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon decided upon a dramatic 10 percent reduction on the fares for public transportation. In the framework of preparing for the work on the Tel Aviv Light Rail, they seek to encourage drivers to abandon their private cars in favor of public transportation.
In the framework of the reform, the fare for public transportation in each of the major metropolitan areas of Israel----Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and Beersheba---will be included and will have a price that both the Transport and Finance Ministry define as “reasonable.”
According to the plan, travelers will be able to travel without restrictions on all public transport (Israel Railway, buses, Light Rail, etc.) in each metropolitan area during the course of 90 minutes for one single price and without any extra charge.
In addition, there will be a dramatic reduction in the subscription for a monthly ticket that combines the railways and the buses.
