Disgraced ex-Mayor Named a Street After His Mistress

David Yosef, mayor of the Tel Aviv suburb of Or Yehuda, was charged Tuesday with 25 different counts of misconduct, including sexual harassment, theft, fraud and obstruction of Justice.

The mayor is accused of exploiting his authority to conduct illicit sexual relationships with female subordinates, and stealing municipal property in order to reward them – including computers, gift cards and even cash.

But perhaps the strangest gift of all was naming a new street “Bali,” apparently after the nickname he gave to one of his workplace lovers.

According to the indictment, Yosef told “Bali” that “he would give her his entire life, and name a street after her.”

Despite offering no explanation as to why he had decided on that particular name, the mayor’s proposal was nonetheless easily approved in a city council meeting.

The indictment further stated that over his eight years in office, Yosef ordered extensive renovations for the offices of the women who yielded to his advances.

He would also allegedly promote the women, regardless of their skills or position requirements, while firing or transferring other employees to free up positions for them.

Yosef is married and has two children.
