Criminal Complaints Against VW in Switzerland; Recalls Expected in India

In India, VW will probably be recalling 100,000 vehicles in the near future, 80,000 of them imports. These include the Vento (a modified Polo), the Jetta, the Passat, the Polo hatchback, and the Polo Cross crossover. Local TV stations say that the recalls will happen before November 8th, but a representative of VW has not yet confirmed that the vehicles will in fact be recalled.

Meanwhile, in Europe, Swiss prosecutors say that they have received some 600 criminal complaints related to the Volkswagen emissions-rigging scandal. The federal prosecutor's office said Thursday that it has agreed with its state-level counterparts to handle all the complaints from private citizens itself rather than leaving them to local authorities to evaluate individually.

It said that complaints have been filed in seven cantons (states), with most coming from the country's French-speaking west, particularly from Geneva. Prosecutors didn't give further details on what allegations the complaints make or on how they will proceed.

In neighboring Germany, Volkswagen's home country, prosecutors are investigating who was responsible for building software used to cheat US emissions tests into millions of diesel engines. The VW Group just posted a $3.84 operating loss for the third-quarter of 2015, which just ended. It was VW's first such loss in 15 years.
