2025 GMC Terrain Debuts With Truck-Inspired Design and a Single Engine
GMC rolls out the 2025 Terrain SUV. The model has been redesigned and is now available with a single engine, a new larger touchscreen, more safety tech, and a new trim. The new Terrain replaces the outgoing model plagued by recalls.

Here comes the third generation of the Terrain SUV, the GMC-branded sibling of the Chevrolet Equinox, with which it shares its underpinnings. Teased ever since this past spring, the entry-level model in the GMC SUV lineup got redesigned, and according to the brand, it features truck-inspired looks.

The front fascia integrates the massive upright grille, now sharing design cues with GMC's truck lineup, flanked by slimmer headlights, mirrored by the new taillights. The off-road-capable AT4 and the luxury-focused Denali trims, which will arrive next year, will get animated LD graphics. The Terrain, which will be ready to tackle rough terrain (pun intended!),  will feature higher ground clearance and metal underbody protection.

Customers will have more paintwork options to choose from, with a two-tone option offered for the first time, with a roof either in black or gray.. The Elevation trim rides on 17-inch wheels, while GMC reserved the 19- and 20-inch units for the Denali.
A new digital instrument cluster showed up on board the Terrain, measuring 11 inches. The model also got a larger portrait-style 15-inch touchscreen, which integrates the infotainment system and controls most of the functions of the SUV.

Both come standard in the company of the Google Assistant, while the HD Surround Vision Camera, the digital rearview mirror, the wireless charger, and the AutoSense power liftgate are available for extra money.

GMC updated the safety package of the SUV as well. It now sports functions such as the Blind Zone Steering Assist, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicylist Alert, Interection Automatic Emergency Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Braking. The Super Cruise system, which is available in GM models such as the Hummer EV or the Cadillac Escalade hasn't found its way into the Terrain SUV.

The carmaker offers a single engine for the Terrain. Just like in the Chevrolet Equinox, it is the 1.5-liter four-cylinder unit working under its hood for 175 horsepower (177 metric horsepower) and 203 pound-feet (275 Newton meters) of torque.

An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels. A front-wheel-drive version is expected in the lineup at a later date. The 2025 GMC Terrain can tow as much as 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms).

Both the AT4 and Denali grades receive Hill Decent Control, while the off-road-focused AT4 gets a lifted suspension and all-terrain tires. GMC reserves the Smart Frequency Dampers for the Denali.

The model should show up on the showroom floors in late 2024 in the shape of the Terrain Elevation. The AT4 and Denali will be available starting next year. We have yet to find out the pricing.
